A former Highland Middle School teacher pleaded guilty to multiple criminal charges stemming from her relationship with a 13-year-old student in 2013.

Jessica Boyers, 26, accepted a plea agreement Friday morning in Jefferson Circuit court to serve 10 years on charges of second degree rape, second degree sodomy and first degree sex abuse.

Thursday, Boyers entered a guilty plea in Oldham Circuit Court on charges stemming from the same student relationship and agreed to serve 12 years, according to court documents.

The former teacher was arrested in April 2013 after police say she was found in her car with the boy in Buechel Park, the Courier-Journal previously reported. She soon resigned from her teaching position at Jefferson County Public Schools.

Their relationship spanned between February and April 2013, court records show. She was living in Pewee Valley in Oldham County at the time of her arrest.

Boyers had maintained her relationship with her student involved kissing and straddling, but the victim told police the two had sexual contact — but never intercourse — in her car, at parks and at her home, according to court records.

The victim told investigators Boyers was his girlfriend. A police investigator asked Boyers in a recorded interview if she felt the same.

"I guess you could call it that," she said.

Her 10-year and 12-year sentences will run concurrently for a total of 12 years. She will be eligible for parole after serving two years, according to her plea agreement documents. Boyers was ordered to complete a sex offender treatment program and comply with the sex offender registry.

Her rape and sodomy charges each carry a five to 10 year sentence. Each of her two sexual abuse charges carry a one to five year penalty.

Sentencing is set for May 7 in Oldham County. She is due back in Jefferson Circuit Court the day after.
