Samtec relocating 300 jobs to Scottsburg

The Courier-Journal

New Albany-headquartered Samtec, Inc., will relocate about 300 jobs to a new manufacturing facility in Scottsburg next year, the company announced Wednesday.

Samtec, which manufactures cables and other products for electronic interconnection, said it plans to break ground this month or next on a 70,000-square-foot manufacturing facility near Scottsburg's Mid-America Science Park, with an estimated completion date of mid-2015

About 300 jobs will be relocated when the facility is opened, consolidating Samtec's operations there from two of its existing manufacturing facilities.

Samtec did not respond Wednesday for comment.

The move will help the company "streamline operations in Southern Indiana and provide greater efficiencies in distribution and logistics," global facilities manager Keith Baumann said in a release.

Samtec hopes to take advantage of the facilities at the science park and a prospective workforce via a training and education partnership between the park's training center, Scott County Schools and Ivy Tech Community College.
