Towns on a roll: Kentucky freshman Karl-Anthony Towns will seek to extend an excellent run of play.

Towns was named the NBCSports.com National Player of the Week for averaging 17 points and 10.5 rebounds in victories over Georgia and Florida.

"It just means that I've been putting a lot of great work in," Towns said. "All those extra hours in the gym I've been putting in have been paying off. … I've just been trying to go through this process step-by-step and never rush it. I think that the biggest thing is it takes time, but now it's good.

The skilled 7-footer led the Wildcats in scoring, rebounds, field-goal percentage (.571), free throws (10 of 10) and blocks (four) during those games.

"He's just a phenomenal player," LSU coach Johnny Jones said. "He can step away from the basket, turn, face up, shoot, good at midrange. At the same time, (he can go) back to the basket that can really challenge you at toward the rim when he's taking the ball to the rack. He's got great physical size and a specimen and can go either way. It makes it very difficult to defend him there."
