STORY LINES

One of the most bizarre stories in recent college basketball seasons happened in one of past few meetings between U of L and Pitt. It was 2011, and sixth-ranked Pitt was about to lose to Louisville when a male cheerleader sprinted onto the floor and threw the ball in the air. Pitt was given two technical foul free throws and possession, but the last-chance 3-pointer missed. It's just part of what has been an intense, if still relatively new, rivalry between the old Big East teams.

Pitt has one of the best home records in college basketball since moving into the Peterson Events Center before the 2002-03 season. The Panthers are 202-28 there. But Louisville's has much success at "The Pete" as any team in the country. The Cards are 3-1 at Pitt, and will be the favorites on Sunday to win a fourth.

OK, so this finally appears to be the game that All-American forward Montrezl Harrell will get his 1,000th point. He just needs two to get there, and this is the type of matchup that favors his interior scoring ability. Pitt's not a small team, but Harrell will be physically bigger and stronger than the key guys the Panthers use inside.
