If you ask, it will come. That was the case with getting 610 Magnolia's chef Edward Lee to put on a Korean dinner, anyway.

"Over the years people have always asked me," Lee said. And he's finally decided it's time to serve up fare showcasing his heritage. On June 6, Lee will host a Korean BBQ at the Wine Studio at 610 Magnolia.

"Korean food works really well in that space because it's family style," said Lee. "All Korean meals are family style so you gather a group of people around a table...there's usually a couple proteins, obviously rice, and then the beauty is the banchan, or the little sides. You get kimchi, picked cucumbers, radishes, spinach. It's a do it yourself sort of meal — you can make lettuce wraps. It's really fun, there's a huge array of things on the table."

Diners will find flavors of sweet soy and garlic, ginger and sesame. Some dishes may be spicy thanks to the use of chile paste, but "not melt your face off," said Lee. Instead, think "savory, sweet spice."

"I find that barbecue is really accessible to people who haven't had Korean," says Lee. On the menu: beef short rub Kalbi, sweet and spicy pork ribs, Kalbi chicken and lots of banchan (sides).

The dinner costs $45 per person. Beverages, tax and 18% tip is additional. As of May 28, the dinner was almost fully booked, so RSVP soon. If the response warrants, Lee will consider adding another night, and "make it a Korean weekend."
