Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis, whose refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples drew national attention last year, will attend President Barack Obama's final State of the Union address on Tuesday.

The Liberty Counsel, a religious freedom organization representing Davis in court, said in a press release that the clerk will provide a "visible reminder of the administration's attack on religious liberty and an encouragement for people of faith to stand." Her attorney, Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, will also attend.

Also attending as an official guest of president will be Jim Obergfell of Ohio, the lead plaintiff in the cases from four states, including Kentucky, that led to the U.S. Supreme Court's decision last June legalizing gay marriage in every state.

Davis was briefly jailed in September after she defied a federal judge and refused to sign off on marriage forms, citing her religious objections as an Apostolic Christian.

Republican Gov. Matt Bevin ordered the forms changed last month to remove the names of county clerks, and the Kentucky Legislature is expected to adopt the changes into state law this year.

Several lawsuits against Davis remain pending in court.
