While some school districts in the area closed or operated on a delay, Jefferson County Public Schools opened its schools as normal Tuesday, although it did not provide transportation for early childhood.

JCPS had said Tuesday morning that there was a possibility that it may close campuses early Tuesday, but sent an update around 11:40 a.m. saying that it would have regular, on-time dismissal Tuesday.

Louisville Weather Closings

Like JCPS, many school districts in the greater Louisville and surrounding areas made game-time decisions early Tuesday about whether to keep schools open.

Oldham County Schools operated on a one-hour delay Tuesday, with elementary schools opening at 8:45 a.m. and middle and high schools opening at 9:45 a.m. Oldham County Preschool was closed for the morning session but the afternoon session operated as normal.

Greater Clark County Schools started on a two-hour delay Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has expanded its Winter Weather Advisory across a wider area through Tuesday evening and has said there is a chance it may need to extend the time of the advisory as well as snow chances and hazardous roads are expected through early Wednesday morning.

Slick roads are expected to become more and more of an issue for drivers as the temperature begins to drop and ice can start to accumulate, said meteorologist Brian Schoettmer.

Schoettmer said Louisville should expect 1 to 2 inches of snow to accumulate through Tuesday afternoon, with a total of four inches or more in some areas through Wednesday.
