UK WR Thaddeus Snodgrass to transfer

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Redshirt freshman wide receiver Thaddeus Snodgrass will transfer from Kentucky, a UK spokeswoman confirmed Wednesday.

Snodgrass, who had yet to catch a pass this season, opened the season as the backup to sophomore wide receiver Dorian Baker but disappeared from the depth chart before Kentucky’s Oct. 15 game against Auburn.

Asked why Snodgrass had been dropped from the depth chart, UK head coach Mark Stoops said, “There’s some other guys playing and he’s been having his struggles, but we’ll see where that goes.”

Snodgrass was rated as a four-star recruit out of Springfield High School in Ohio in 2014 by the 247Sports Composite ranking. He was expected to play immediately as a freshman after enrolling at Kentucky in time for the 2014 spring semester but after being slowed by a hamstring injury in preseason camp ended up redshirting during his first year on campus.

Snodgrass made his collegiate debut in the 2015 opener against Louisiana-Lafayette but did not see a pass thrown his direction in the first six games.

Snodgrass is the fifth UK player to leave the program since the summer, joining fellow Ohio natives Jaleel Hytchye, Dorian Hendrix, Nick Richardson and Josh Krok in moving on from Kentucky. Senior wide receiver Rashad Cunningham also elected to forgo his final season of eligibility this summer but remained at Kentucky on scholarship to finish his degree. None of those players were expected to see significant playing time this fall.
