Calipari promoting new 'Players First' book on TV, radio
University of Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari is making the media rounds this week ahead of the release of his new book, "Players First: Coaching from the Inside Out."
After spending Monday with CBS and Fox, he'll head to ESPN on Tuesday and NBC on Thursday for a number of live TV and radio appearances.
Co-authored with writer Michael Sokolove, the book details Calipari's program-building methods, problem solving and perhaps a look at how the Wildcats made their run to the 2014 national championship game.
"I don't give up on kids. I don't give up on teams. I don't give up on seasons," Calipari wrote, according to an advance copy provided to The Courier-Journal. "That's bred into me as a coach, a big part of who I am. Only at the very end is there that moment of stark reality: We're done. We got to the end of our story."
Among the endorsements for "Players First" is former President Bill Clinton, who called the book "terrific" and said it "reveals (Calipari's) greater purpose."
