The holidays often bring to mind family, friends and the big feast. But what about those stories of Christmas and Hanukkah gatherings past that get told over and over again not because they're heartwarming but because they stir laughter about disasters?

"Ahh, life is like that," as the narrator in the movie "A Christmas Story" tells us just before the Bumpus hounds devour the family's turkey. "Sometimes at the height of our revelries — when our joy is at its zenith, when all is most right with the world — the most unthinkable disasters descend upon us."

Has your pet ever destroyed the Christmas tree? Have you eaten all the latkes before the guests arrive? Or been caught under the mistletoe with someone unexpected?
