Bridgewater films with Gruden at 'QB Camp'

Jon Gruden points at University of Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, his hair neatly parted and his smile one of a still-fiery Super Bowl champion.

That's the image ESPN's crew pushed Monday with Gruden for the analyst's "QB Camp" series, which picks apart top signal callers' games and mindsets ahead of the NFL draft.

Gruden doles out the constructive criticism in the film room and on the field. But before Bridgewater's special airs, of course, ESPN had to film it. That's why the former Cardinal spent his day at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World.

In a teaser video released by ESPN, Gruden probed Bridgewater on his use of a glove on his throwing hand while in college. Bridgewater took the glove off for the Cardinals' pro day last week, a buzz-worthy topic for NFL draft experts who mostly determined the Miami native didn't much help or hurt his draft stock with the performance.

"When I was training leading up to the combine, I was back home in Florida – nice weather. I went back to my high school days – no glove. I'm one of those guys that trusts preparation. I gain confidence the more I prepare.

"…I learned a valuable lesson that day. I had a few balls that got away from me, and like I said, I was able to learn walking away from there that just do what got you there. If you're comfortable with the gloves, continue to wear the gloves. So everywhere I go, I make sure I carry my gloves with me."

Gruden then looked into Bridgewater's "mental background" – how he broke down a play called "72/73 Dusty 'X' Indy." Bridgewater explained to Gruden his progressions and how he reads the defense's coverage.

"How can you read it like that, Teddy?" Gruden asks. "How come he's No. 1? There's a lot of times you know he's not going to get it."

So Bridgewater explained his thinking – that he's reading a cornerback when deciding to throw deep or check down.

The former coach's takeaway?

"You're good," Gruden said.

ESPN is set to release its full "QB Camp" broadcast schedule this month. The first segment airs March 27 with Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel.
