Preakness | Another misspelled towel for Derby winner

Just in case the California Chrome camp is superstitious, the Maryland Jockey Club is providing the Kentucky Derby winner with two Preakness Stakes saddle towels for training upon his arrival next week at Pimlico Race Course.

One has his named spelled as "Califorina Chrome," which is how it appeared on the first Derby training saddle towel made up for the Santa Anita Derby winner. The other has the correct spelling. Churchill Downs also came up with a corrected version, but took back the errant one before it was actually used. California Chrome's people will get to keep both Preakness saddle cloths.

The idea came from Maryland Jockey Club racing secretary Georganne Hale. But she's not picking on Churchill Downs for a mistake. Bernardini won the 2006 Preakness wearing a saddle towel in the race that had his name as "Bernadini."
