Week 1 brought a few surprises in the Southeastern Conference. Texas A&M dismantling South Carolina on the road – without Johnny Football and Mike Evans – put the league on notice. As Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin said: "We're not a one-trick pony."

On the other end of the spectrum, Vanderbilt ushered in the post-James Franklin era in depressing fashion: a blowout home loss to Temple, which won just two games last season. The air is out of that balloon.

Alabama fans have surely been fretting all weekend over a less-than-dominant win over West Virginia. But it was a win, with two great rushing performances. The Tide just needs to find a competent quarterback. Elsewhere, Auburn's offense looks devastating again, Georgia's takedown of Clemson was impressive and star running back Todd Gurley's monster game has him (rightly) atop early Heisman lists.

Florida's opener was washed out, while two second-year coaches got off to great starts – Butch Jones at Tennessee, where the Vols dominated a Utah State team that has been very good in recent years, and Mark Stoops at Kentucky. The Cats rolled against UT Martin, racking up the fourth-most yards in school history in a 59-14 rout.
