University of Louisville point guard Chris Jones suffered a stress fracture in his left shin and will be out six weeks, he said Thursday.

In confirming the injury, U of L spokesman Kenny Klein tweeted that Jones will be sidelined from basketball for 3-5 weeks but would "continue to swim and exercise to maintain conditioning."

Jones, a 5-foot-10 senior, posted a photo of his leg in an aircast on Instagram early Thursday afternoon.

"Major blow, man," he wrote on the site. "Patience is the key now."

He had just returned from the Adidas Nations camp for high school prospects, where he and U of L teammates Montrezl Harrell and Terry Rozier served as counselors.

Jones is expected to start alongside Rozier in the backcourt this season and had an impressive summer after lowering his weight to 172 pounds, coach Rick Pitino said last month.

The rehab process puts his return near the official start of practice for the Cardinals. Jones joins sophomore power forward Akoy Agau on the injured list. Agau had sports hernia surgery in July and is expected to return in early September.
