Louisville’s Schimmel joins Hancock in 3-point contest
The University of Louisville will have representation in both the men’s and women’s 3-Point Championships on Thursday ahead of the Final Four in Dallas.
Two days after U of L announced senior Luke Hancock had accepted an invitation, the university noted that Shoni Schimmel will also compete at Southern Methodist’s Moody Coliseum.
The full event — named the College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships — starts at 9 p.m. and airs on ESPN. Brad Nessler, Dan Dakich and Kaylee Hartung will be on the call.
Schimmel holds U of L’s school record for 3-pointers with 387 in her four years. She made 118 of them alone as a senior season, with another school-record nine in one game against Memphis.
Hancock, the 2013 Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player, made 68 3-pointers as a junior and 68 as a senior for the Cardinals. He connected on 36 of 90 over U of L’s last 15 games, good for 40 percent.
Schimmel is the third U of L women’s player to participate in the event following Becky Burke and Jill Morton. Hancock is the second 3-point competitor for U of L, with the other Kenny Payne in 1989.
