PLAYERS TO WATCH

KENTUCKY

RYAN TIMMONS

#1 | WR | SOPHOMORE

The former four-star recruit, an in-state star who chose UK over Florida and Ohio State, is a bit of an enigma. He' leads the team with 41 catches for 508 yards this fall and has 846 receiving yards in 21 career games. But he has struggled with effort and dropped passes and imprecise route-running, and this week he was demoted to second-string – behind walk-on Joey Herrick – on the depth chart. How will the dynamic playmaker respond?

"He can play better. He does some things really well," offensive coordinator Neal Brown said. "When the ball's in his hands, he's probably our most elusive guy. He's just got to be consistent. He's got to catch the ball. He's had some big drops. I've got 100 percent faith in him. He's lost a little bit of confidence. He can't do it. He's got the ability to be a great player; he's just got to be consistent. He understands that, and I think when he gets opportunities this week, he'll make the most of them."

TENNESSEE

JALEN HURD

#1 | RB | FRESHMAN

He does not look like a true freshman at 6-3, 227 pounds, and the former five-star recruit often doesn't play like one. Hurd has 598 rushing yards, 166 receiving yards and four touchdowns in nine games to lead the Volunteers in all-purpose yards. He's been at his best against the best: 121 total yards at Oklahoma, 138 at Georgia, 86 against Alabama and 183 in UT's comeback win at South Carolina. Worth noting: The Cats have allowed 300-plus rushing yards in three of their last four games.

"He's just a complete running back," Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said. "Just physically, if you look at him, he reminds me of (NFL star) Adrian Peterson a little bit. Just that big, tall, good-looking running back. Very dynamic player. He's going to be a heck of a player. Maybe doesn't look as flashy as the little guys sometimes, but he's always running away from people, running through people."
