U of L vs. UK football game set through 2019

Kyle Tucker

The annual Governor's Cup football rivalry between the University of Kentucky and Louisville will continue through at least 2019, according to a copy of the contract extension obtained by fbschedules.com.

The new deal, signed July 1 by both school's athletic directors, secures the game as both teams' regular-season finale — a move that takes effect for the first time this fall — for the next six years.

Upcoming dates and locations are:

Nov. 29, 2014 in Louisville; Nov. 28, 2015 in Lexington, Nov. 26, 2016 in Louisville; Nov. 25, 2017 in Lexington; Nov. 24, 2018 in Louisville and Nov. 30, 2019 in Lexington.

The rivals opened the season against each other every year from 1994 through 2006 before moving to a rotating schedule: the third game when in Lexington and opener when in Louisville.

Now the two teams will square off on college football's more traditional rivalry weekend.
