North Carolina State's Jerod Fernandez tackles Presbyterian's Jeremiah McKie (2) during the first half of an NCAA college football game in Raleigh, N.C., Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014.

Seven North Carolina State football players have been suspended for Saturday's game against the University of Louisville for their role in an off-campus BB gun incident, coach Dave Doeren announced Monday.

Those suspended include a pair of starters, linebacker Jerod Fernandez and safety Josh Jones. Others are defensive tackle Justin Jones, receiver Jumichael Ramos, defensive end Pharoah McKever, receiver Johnathan Alston and cornerback Mike Stevens.

Five other players -- Tyler Jones, Kalen McCain, Deyshawn Middleton, Terronne Prescod, and Maurice Trowell -- were placed on probation by Doeren, as they're redshirting this season.

Fernandez leads the Wolfpack in tackles with 58, while Josh Jones is fourth on the team with 38 of them to go with five pass breakups. Both have started all seven NC State games.

Additionally, Alston is listed as a co-starter at the slot and Justin Jones is in the defensive front's rotation.

"These are good young men who made a mistake in not recognizing that this activity could have resulted in someone being injured," Doeren said in a statement. "We have discussed this with them and they understand that they are being held responsible for their actions. The information was referred to the university's office of student conduct as well. Our players admitted their mistake and we will help them learn from it as well."

The Wolfpack enter Saturday's 3:30 p.m. kickoff at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium 4-3 overall and 0-3 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
