The University of Louisville won't officially become a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference until July 1, but Papa John's Cardinal Stadium will wear the mark of U of L's new league before then.

The chance of thunderstorms could delay the painting of the new ACC logo on the PJCS field, but plans as of Monday were for the new branding to go onto the grass at noon Tuesday.

The painting process, a U of L spokesman explained in an email to reporters, is "quite extensive," and the stitching of the logo will take well into the afternoon.

The logos will be placed near the 20-yard lines on both sides of the field. Louisville football opens the 2014 season with an ACC home game against Miami on Labor Day.

U of L planned a fan party at Fourth Street Live! next week, starting at 5 p.m. on July 1. That will follow the school's press conference earlier in the day to celebrate the switch in conferences.

The Cards also bought billboard space around the city to acknowledge their new league, and the women's field hockey team became the first U of L squad to get its ACC patches.
