University of Louisville running back L.J. Scott, a true freshman from Marion, Ohio, was named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s rookie football player of the week on Monday.

Scott rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown in the Cardinals’ 66-21 victory Saturday over Murray State, making the most of his 11 carries.

The 6-foot-2, 228-pound Scott’s long run was 68 yards on the same drive he ended with his first career touchdown that moved U of L ahead 21-7 at the time.

Rated a four-star recruit by ESPN out of high school, Scott fits into the Cardinals’ backfield as a reserve behind starter Dominique Brown.

Scott saw an increased workload against Murray State five days after Brown rushed more than 30 times in the season opener against Miami. Also, senior Michael Dyer sat out a second straight game with a thigh bruise.

Other ACC players of the week included Pittsburgh’s T.J. Clemmings (offensive lineman), Clemson’s Artavis Scott (receiver), Virginia Tech’s Dadi Nicolas (defensive lineman), Virginia Tech’s Deon Clarke (linebacker), North Carolina’s Brian Walker (co-defensive back), Virginia Tech’s Brian Walker (co-defensive back) and Pittsburgh’s Chris Blewitt (specialist).
