A look at the University of Kentucky's lone verbal commitment as college basketball's fall signing period gets under way. Charles Matthews is expected to sign with UK by Friday.
CHARLES MATTHEWS

Club team: Meanstreets
Rankings: ESPN – 44, Scout – 62, Rivals – 57, 247Sports - 61

Lowdown: Matthews is a tall, versatile guard who can play all three perimeter positions and can shoot, drive, pass and defend. He was a considered a five-star, top-15 player at the time of his commitment last season, but he has slid in the rankings after some so-so showings on the AAU and camp circuit. He's now considered a four-star prospect and likely multiyear college player. He plays for the same Nike-sponsored Meanstreets club program that produced former John Calipari recruits Derrick Rose, Anthony Davis and Tyler Ulis. He and Ulis are good friends.
Analyst's take: "Every time I watch (him) play, his athleticism and speed are the things that stand out. I think he's got the chance to be a really good defender, a really good rebounder from the guard position. Their games aren't exactly the same, but I kind of liken him to a DeAndre Liggins type player in college." – Evan Daniels, Scout.com
