The University of Louisville sold a record number of football season tickets heading into the 2014 season, the school announced Wednesday.

After selling out the luxury suites at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium for the first time, U of L sold 46,149 season football tickets.

The athletics program's move to the Atlantic Coast Conference and home games against college football powers like Florida State and Miami have been big draws since U of L started selling tickets this offseason, senior associate athletic director for development Mark Jurich said in June.

The 46,000-plus season tickets break the record set last year when U of L sold 45,627 ahead of the 2013 season.

Louisville hosts two nationally televised night games, including the 8 p.m. Sept. 1 season opener against Miami.

Individual tickets go on sale Friday.
