Clemson fan gets into U of L huddle

Sometime during Clemson's 23-17 win over Louisville on Saturday, a Clemson fan with what appeared to be a Memorial Stadium field pass found his way onto Louisville's bench.

Video of the incident, caught by The Crunch Zone, a Louisville fan site, shows the man sitting in the middle of a Louisville defensive huddle on the sideline before Louisville staffers whisked him toward police.

Clemson's athletics department said in a statement to The Courier-Journal that the fan was not a member of a group that had been issued passes to be on the field at halftime. The incident, Clemson said, occurred early in the second half.

"The individual had an authorized credential issued for a group allowed on the field for halftime," the statement said. "He is not a member of that group, and action will be taken against those individuals who were authorized to distribute the credentials. As an athletic department, the security of our fans and visitors are of the utmost importance, and we will continue to evaluate and reinforce visiting team bench security in future games."

Safety James Sample was in Louisville's huddle when the incident happened. Middle linebacker Keith Kelsey mentioned something to his teammates just before the fan was pulled away from the players.

"I didn't notice him until one of our linebackers said something," Sample said, with a laugh. "I was like, 'Dang.' I didn't know what he was doing."

It doesn't appear that the fan caused anything more than a ruckus on the sideline.
