The University of Louisville football team will be without its fastest player for the rest of the 2014 season.

Corvin Lamb, a redshirt junior running back from Miami, had surgery Wednesday morning to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, U of L announced.

He suffered the injury during Louisville's 23-17 loss at Clemson on Saturday.

Lamb left the game in obvious pain after participating in a special-teams play. He was a key member of Louisville's kick return unit.

The injury is a blow to the soft-spoken Lamb, who missed all but two games last season with a torn ACL in his other knee.

He had a 97-yard kick return for a touchdown in Louisville's season-opening win against Miami. Lamb also had five carries for eight yards.
