Out-of-state money flooding into RPK coffers
The Republican Party of Kentucky saw a windfall of big contributions from across the country in September - much of it from people who had previously given as much as the law allows to the re-election campaign of Kentucky Republican U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell.
During September, 25 individuals gave $10,000 (the maximum allowed by federal law) to the RPK, according to a report the party filed Monday with the Federal Election Commission. Of those 25 maximum givers, 21 are from out of Kentucky.
Overall for the month, the RPK reported that it took in $742,492, spent $1,027,460, and as of Sept. 30 it had just over $1.8 million on hand.
Also during the month, the RPK got a big $50,000 donation from Republican U.S. Sen. Rand Paul's committee for re-election to the U.S. Senate in 2016.
And at least 21 Frankfort lobbyists (or spouses of lobbyists) gave to the RPK last month.
The monthly report for the Kentucky Democratic Party has not yet been posted on the Federal Election Commission website.
