University of Louisville sophomore forward Akoy Agau hasn't exactly enjoyed his past few months.

The 6-foot-8 Nebraskan had sports hernia surgery in late July and was originally expected to return after six-to-eight weeks of rehab. But when he returned to team workouts, Agau noticed little improvement and has slowed down his workload to fully heal.

“It's been kind of rocky, very frustrating,”Agau said. “I've kind of taken a step back now.”

Agau played a limited role last season and participated in 19 games. U of L coach Rick Pitino praised the power forward this summer, saying he had matured and learned enough that he should see increased responsibility this coming season.

Despite the setbacks, Agau expects to play in the next week or two, he said. Pitino estimated that Agau would be ready for this coming Sunday's 2 p.m. intrasquad scrimmage.

That would be a relief for Agau.

“I’ve been out for 10 or 11 weeks,” Agau said. “The team's working out and doing individuals. I lost my timing. I can't jump like I used to. I'm just trying to get all those skills back from before I got hurt.”
