Reader Letter

My family has suffered a horrible tragedy in the death of our son, grandson, brother, cousin and friend, Tyler English. He was in a house fire at Bowling Green on Oct. 31. Tyler had chosen to go to WKU on a full football scholarship. After one week of football practice he came home for Father's Day and was involved in a near fatal accident.

After a very long recovery he returned to WKU. His football career over, he lost his scholarship, but the staff that had recruited Tyler, while they had moved on, talked to the athlete director who in turn talked to the president of the university. President Gary Ransdell made the decision to let Tyler work with the football team and pay him with his tuition. After Jeff Brohm became head coach he worked with Tyler and made him feel like he truly was an important part of the team. That meant the world to Tyler and is so comforting to us now!

I cannot say enough good things about WKU. They care, they really care about the students. They did not have to pay Tyler's tuition, but they did, they did not have to make Tyler part of the team, but they did, they did not have to help him with his rehab after returning to school, but they did!

On Saturday at the homecoming football game, the team had a new decal on their helmets of a football with the TE (Tyler English) inside it. They did not have to do that, but they did! WKU, our family loves everything about your wonderful university!
