Fun stories set to music - for kids

Classical music dovetails with stories of a flower-loving bull and Max, the high-spirited child who enters a world of beasts to conquer them and become king in a family-focused concert this month.

An original drawing by Maurice Sendak in his book "Where the Wild Things Are," which was made into a filmed opera that Classical 90.5 WUOL will present at its Summer Listening Party.

A live performance of “The Story of Ferdinand” by Squallis Puppeteers with WUOL’s Sara Soltau on violin and a screening of the children's opera “Where the Wild Things Are” as performed by the Glyndebourne Festival Opera with the libretto by author Maurice Sendak and music by Oliver Knussen are part of Classical 90.5 WUOL’s Summer Listening Party events.

ART PICK: 'Beauty and the Beast' at Derby Dinner Playhouse

WHEN: 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, July 23. Beginning at 1 p.m. craft-making with Squallis Puppeteers and a library book corner and a Carmichael's Bookstore table. Stories begin at 2 p.m.
