Kentucky is home to more than 40 craft breweries cranking out beer in cities both big and small.

We probably all know that Louisville and Lexington have become craft beer hotspots, with brands like Against the Grain and West Sixth expanding from single locations to huge community presences.

But as the industry grows nationally, it's also reached into smaller areas like Elizabethtown and Danville, where microbreweries can serve as community connectors.

Here, learn about one of the breweries that are fermenting in Kentucky.

FALLS CITY BREWING CO.

116 S. 10th St., Louisville | fallscitybeer.com | Facebook: @fallscitybeer

Opened: 1905, reinvented in 2010

Owner: John Neace

Bio: Falls City is an iconic company that dates back to 1905. The brand was brought back in 2010 with a new passion for creating flavorful, handcrafted beers.

Top three beers:

  • Hipster Repellant IPA — A dry-hopped American IPA brewed with Citra, Simcoe and Amarillo hops.
  • Pale Ale — A malty, English-style pale ale.
  • Kentucky Common — A style of beer native to Louisville that is brewed with corn and rye.

Most inventive beer: One of our more creative beers was probably the Cabernet IPA, a collaboration with our friends at Old 502 Winery. It was an American pale ale fermented with red wine juice and aged in Cabernet barrels.

Fun fact: We resurrected an iconic Louisville brand, which allows us to blend history with innovation.

Edited for style and clarity.
