3-month-old died after smothering in homicide

A three-month-old baby boy that was reported "unconscious" Thursday died from being smothered, according to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.
Lucas Paez Cruz, the three-month-old, was pronounced dead at a home on Fountain Drive in West Buechel.
West Buechel police responded Thursday to a report of an infant "unconscious and not breathing," LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell said.
LMPD is assisting the West Buechel force "because we have an investigative unit that has more experience," Mitchell added in a news conference at the scene Thursday. No one is in custody while detectives investigate, he added "to see exactly what happened."
