U of L's Dyer still questionable for Miami

Louisville running back Michael Dyer takes a breather after scoring a touchdown during an aug. 16 scrimmage at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

Louisville still isn't certain yet which version of Michael Dyer will dress for Monday's season opener against Miami.

The running back suffered a quadriceps contusion during the Cards' intrasquad scrimmage two Saturdays ago and didn't practice last week.

U of L coach Bobby Petrino said Dyer's progress on Monday and Tuesday this week would have a big impact on his status for the Miami game. He didn't have much to add during Wednesday's ACC coaches' teleconference.

"He's continuing to improve," Petrino said. "He's still questionable."

The swelling still lingered as of Monday morning, Petrino said, and Dyer's progression toward health hadn't quite gone as quickly as Louisville hoped.

Dyer's a home-run threat, and his combination of speed, elusiveness and power can provide a spark behind starting running back Dominique Brown. Some even see the duo having a similar number of carries this season.
